The Choir
Holy Trinity Church has always fostered excellence in the use of traditional organ and choral music in its worship. Its repertoire extends from plainsong to contemporary with some emphasis on music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The choir sings at the 10am Eucharist each Sunday morning and on the third Sunday of the month presents a full Choral Evensong. In addition, each year we sing on special festivals for Passiontide, the Easter Triduum (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Eve Vigil), Trinity, Advent Carols and the Christmas Midnight service. A small chamber orchesta accompanies the choir and congregation at the 10am service once a month and at special festivals.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 to 9pm and for one hour before the Sunday services.
New members are always welcome - some sight-reading ability would be an advantage but not essential.
There is a small junior choir and boys and girls from about eight years old are welcome to join. Music tuition, especially sight-reading, is an essential part of their programme and are led by Jill Sharwood. Bursaries are provided by the Arts Supporters Council of Holy Trinity towards music and other education of the junior choir members and for attendance at interstate Summer Schools. At present, the trebles sing on the second and fourth Sunday of each month and attend rehearsal on the Tuesday prior.
The choir uniform for most of the year is blue cassocks and white surplices, however, after Advent Sunday (4th Sunday before Christmas day) the choir adopts a summer uniform. The summer uniform is white short sleeve shirts - with the Holy Trinity Choir logo embroidered on them - black skirts, trousers, etc.
